Foster Experiential Learning
We will launch and accelerate the management careers of our graduates by delivering real-life, hands-on learning experiences to our students and providing them knowledge, skills and development opportunities. Students will derive these experiences and opportunities through initiatives such as our mentorship and leadership programs, student case competitions, and funds that support students who compete under the Telfer School banner.
While completing their MBA internship project, Olivier Llorca (MBA 2016) and Siddhartha Garg (MSc Electronic Business Technologies 2017), working with Ottawa-based company Beyond 20/20, were tasked with restructuring the existing "Crime Insight" program to make the user experience smoother and more interesting. The goal of the program is to make crime data in any given jurisdiction accessible to people looking for an accurate, up-to-date database.
For the 30th year, the MBA Games reunited students across the country on January 5 to 7 to compete in various academic, athletic and spirit events. For the first time in their history, the MBA Games were held at the Telfer School and were organized by our students. The Telfer School team won the Academic Cup for the very first time for its highest score in Finance, Marketing, Strategy and Diversity and Inclusion.
With its continued focus on maintaining the highest ethical standards, CFA Societies Canada has named a group of four students from Telfer School as winners of the 2018 CFA Societies Canada Ethics Challenge at a reception at Terminal City Club in Vancouver. Finalist teams were announced in March, and on May 3, 2018, they gathered in Vancouver for the final round of the competition.
In September 2017, the Telfer School of Management’s undergraduate office launched the Telfer Workshop Initiative. This initiative offers an overview of post-secondary education in management, as well as professional development training to students in grades 10 to 12, in secondary 4 and 5, and in cégep. These workshops offer an unparalleled opportunity for students to discover commerce, and for teachers to enrich their course content.
The 8th edition of the Legacy Conference took place at the Delta Hotels Ottawa City Centre on March 23 and 24, 2018. From Vancouver to Halifax, and everywhere in between, Legacy 2018 brought together over 700 like-minded hackers, doers, and builders.
