The Director of the Student Services Centre, which includes the Undergraduate Office, the Career Centre and the International Exchanges and Scholarship Programs, provides strategic and operational leadership in the direction, planning and development of the Centre’s activities and programs.
The Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Career Centre in the planning, organizational design and implementation of its services, events and programs to enhance Telfer students’ career management skills and employment. This individual also provides leadership and management of the Career Centre team in order to define and develop student recruitment strategies for all services and events to achieve the objectives of the Centre and the Telfer School. In addition, the Manager coordinates and leads the Ambassador Program and its 30 volunteers.
The Relationship Managers are responsible for initiating and developing strong business relationships with various organizations while recommending effective recruitment strategies. Relationship Managers help connect students with employers by bringing business professionals on campus for various recruitment activities and networking events. They also help students develop their self-marketing skills as well as assist in the overall planning, organization, and coordination of employers’ recruitment practices.
Relationship Managers demonstrate vision and leadership, which has a positive impact on the employment rate of Telfer School of Management graduates.
The Career Counsellor assists students with their career development and facilitates the career exploration process. The Counsellor plays an active role in helping students determine their career values, clarify their interests, and discover their personality type.
Students can take advantage of individual consultations to examine various career exploration strategies in order to help them make more informed decisions about their professional endeavours. The Counsellor also helps students create winning resumés, prepare for interviews, target their job search, design career portfolios, and create career action plans. In addition, the Counsellor is responsible for developing and presenting many of our Career Centre workshops.
Marketing and Communications Coordinator
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for planning and organizing all events and workshops held by the Career Centre. The Coordinator is also responsible for developing and implementing many student programs as well as creating and executing all marketing and communications strategies for the Centre. The Coordinator also helps maintain relationships with employers.
Events and Special Projects Assistant and Student Experience and Events Assistants
The Events and Special Projects Assistant and the Student Experience and Events Assistants work cooperatively with other team members to organize events and activities related to the Career Centre and the student experience including career conventions, employer interviews, networking events, employer information sessions, employer panels, and career development workshops. They are also responsible for compiling statistics related to the Centre’s services, posting job opportunities, providing administrative support, and managing student appointments with the Career Counsellor, the Reviser and the Relationship Managers.
Reviser and Professional Development Coordinator
The Reviser helps students edit their resumés and cover letters for style, content and quality of language. This individual resumé critique allows students to receive invaluable feedback that will help them find a fulfilling career.
Career Centre Ambassadors
The Career Centre Ambassadors are student volunteers in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Throughout the academic year, the Ambassadors help the Career Centre staff promote and organize various events, including career conventions, workshops and information sessions. The Ambassadors also publish content on the Career Centre blog.
