Thinking back to your childhood, was there a particular profession you dreamed of entering when you were an adult?

From a very young age, I had a natural curiosity for mixtures and solutions. In particular I enjoyed discovering what I can create with that various soaps and liquids that I could gather in and around my house. By the age of 6 I was concocting leftover soaps to ‘design’ my own shampoo.  I was fascinated by the bubbles that were created by mixing soap with water. I wanted to create different colors and scents and was so proud of my creations.  Not surprisingly, my desire to mix and create throughout the early stages of my life landed me an occupation in the field of Biochemistry. Today I lead projects in the design and discovery of innovative anti-aging molecules to be used in skin-care formulations. I am fortunate to hold such a passion for my field of work. I love problem-solving and helping to make a difference. With my ever growing ambitions and determination to push my projects to success, I am confident that the Executive MBA program is the next logical step in my personal and professional development.

What are you looking forward to completing while in the Telfer Executive MBA Program?

While in the Telfer Executive MBA program I look forward to completing the International Business Consulting Project and Trip. It will be a great opportunity to be exposed to an international market and apply the global perspective knowledge we learn throughout the program across the different business disciplines. Given my technical science background, the Signature Series of Six Business Consulting Projects will allow me to develop my leadership, confidence and test my management skills to prepare me for senior management roles within my field of expertise. I also look forward to strengthening my communication and negotiation skills in order to become a more effective negotiator in a wide range of challenges both professionally and personally.

What do you admire in a leader or mentor? Do you have someone who you consider a strong leader or mentor within your life?

What I truly admire in a mentor can be summarized in three things: first is their ability to share freely their knowledge and experience without asking for anything in return; second is to push others to achieve their fullest potential; and third is to be caring, open-minded and non-judgmental.  I am fortunate to have many mentors in my life and the one that stands out is my mother. My mother is the epitome of courage, perseverance and patience. Through her actions, she has taught me the values of hard work and dedication. Without imposing her views on me, she encourages me daily to think freely for myself, to exceed expectations, to be open-minded and to face life’s challenges with ferocity. Her unconditional support and belief in me gives me the strength and courage to push my limits so that I can be my best.

I found the live interaction with a really interesting and experienced group of people to be an invaluable learning process that provoked open-mindedness and renewed creativity.
