Sabby, what would you say was the craziest or most unique experience you have had while vacationing?
I love to travel with my three beautiful daughters. I never had the opportunity to travel when I was growing up, but as a family it has been great travelling with the kids and our friends. The trip that I remember the most was to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii, where there were seven of us travelling together over a period of 21 days, with us being on 10 different planes during this time. It was fun, except for one occasion when we thought that we had enough time to get food for the kids before the next flight. However, we failed to hear the last call for the flight, and yes we ended up missing the flight. Oh dear, what were we going to do? We each had two pieces of luggage for each person and we were seven very tired individuals. The airline, after careful negotiations, finally came to the rescue and provided us with a means of transportation to our next destination. It was a beautiful coach, which allowed a few of us to sleep and for others to enjoy the beautiful landscape of New Zealand.
Choosing to complete an Executive MBA is a big consideration. After reviewing the various masters’ programs available, why did you choose to enroll in the Telfer Executive MBA Program?
I am extremely fortunate to be accepted into the Telfer Executive MBA Program. Telfer is really focussed on developing and nurturing true leaders that would have a great impact in their relevant field of work. The emphasis and approach to practical learning is key at Telfer since the candidates work on real consulting projects. I have had the privilege of running my own business for the last 18 years, however learning and enhancing my knowledge is important since it provides me with self-growth and allows me to bring my very best to any given situation.
What do you admire in a leader or mentor? Do you have someone who you consider a strong leader or mentor within your life?
It is important to have a strong mentor in your life. I am very grateful to have found one. She is a true mentor that has a strong ability to inspire me and to provide me with the foundation so that I am able to bring out the very best. A mentor that is able to lead by her actions, as well as her words, is the most powerful mentor that one can have. Honesty is key and a mentor has to be able to have the crucial conversations that are necessary to allow you to grow. My mentor has had an impact that has reached and impacted my three daughters, for which I am very grateful.
Giving back to the community is important and, in line, with our work we have been a great advocate and supporter for palliative care. Life is precious and every moment of it needs to be respected and nurtured.
