Health Systems Research Seminar: Self-tracking Behaviors and Use of Smart Connected Health Technologies in Canada

This study is a nationwide survey on self-tracking behaviors and the use of mobile health apps and smart connected devices. With a representative sample of 4,109 Canadian adults, this is the only national market survey in this area and represents one of the largest surveys on the use of consumer digital health technologies in the global landscape. The study, which was commissioned by Canada Health Infoway, was conducted by a research team based at HEC Montreal and CEFRIO. Data were collected via The Nielsen Company's web panel in early 2017. Results show an opportunity to advance the health of Canadians through mobile apps and smart devices; and highlight important nuances to better understand key market segments.

About the Speaker

Guy Paré is a Full Professor of Information Technology Management and holds the Research Chair in Digital Health at HEC Montréal. His current research interests involve the clinical, organizational and economic impacts of telehealth applications, electronic medical record systems and health information exchange projects as well as the barriers to adoption and implementation of health IT in the Quebec health care system. His work has appeared in top-ranked scientific journals and presented at several international and national conferences. Professor Paré’s expertise in health informatics has been sought by numerous organizations including the World Health Organization, the Department of Health in France, Canada Health Infoway, INESSS, and the Québec Ministry of Health and Social Services. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada in 2012.
