"In general, my experience at Telfer has been good. I found the classes from some professors quite stimulating. I was also involved in clubs and extracurricular activities that gave me the opportunity to make the most of my academic experience. I find that the activities provided by the Career Centre help students develop skills and build their professional profile. I'm supposed to go to Madrid in the winter for an international exchange. I would like to improve my third language, which is Spanish, and gain a better understanding of international markets, especially European markets with which I’m less familiar. Since my professional goal is to pursue a career abroad, I will benefit a lot from this exchange."

“My time here at Telfer has been challenging so far. Despite these challenges, my experiences have been rewarding. Telfer has allowed me to study in French immersion, as well as to gain valuable volunteer and work experience. After much hard work and determination, I am proud to say that I was admitted into the CO-OP program. Ultimately, through my developing skills, I have learned to overcome these obstacles by setting goals, being persistent and managing my time.”

“Be bold in figuring out your WHY. I had the opportunity to explore different programs, meet people from different nations (and in different nations), learn to fail without fear, and grow my depth and breadth of experience with the support of a community.
Telfer offers business students incredible opportunities, but you need to figure out how to uniquely leverage them. I was bold in my pursuit to figure out what my skills are and where my passions lie.”

“I heard about being a Career Centre ambassador through a friend who was also applying for the position. I realized I didn’t want to limit my extracurricular experience to specific clubs but to expand my experiences to include something that is more general to the student body. I knew as a Career Centre ambassador I would be stepping out of my comfort zone, since I would be constantly networking with students, employers, as well as Career Centre staff.
If you want to get involved, I strongly recommend applying to be an ambassador, you’ll gain a lot of meaningful friendships as well as experiences!”

"The fact that I chose a specialization in Finance can be explained in part by my family culture: almost all of my family works in this field. I also have a passion for numbers, and the Finance program was the ideal choice. When I came to Telfer, I had expectations just from an academic standpoint, but I gained so much more: I worked as a teaching assistant, I was president of a competition and I also did CO-OP internships.
My life at Telfer alternates between classes, internships and group projects. I also love being a teaching assistant because I want to have a positive impact on my fellow students. I make good use of the CO-OP Office’s and the Career Centre’s resources. Apart from these resources, I try to maintain good relationships with professors like Mr. Saadi with whom I worked on a research project, and who later became a mentor for me. However, life at Telfer hasn’t been without its share of less pleasant experiences. I encountered several problems in my group projects, mainly due to personality differences. I am someone who hates procrastination; I prefer to plan my projects in advance, which is not the case for some people. Still, these are all useful experiences for my future career. My long-term dream is to be a professor and researcher in Finance, and why not, to come back here to teach."

"The scariest moment for me at Telfer was in my second year when I realized all my plans had to change. I went to a Career Centre workshop and started talking to the relationship managers, Kimberley and Caroline. They told me I needed to network more than I initially thought (since I was no longer in co-op) and get to know myself better. This pushed me to get my Career Development Certificate and really get involved.
Now I feel much better, and I know where I am heading. This year I wanted to focus on academics and case competitions since I really enjoy the experience you gain from them. Getting involved with the Career Centre has also been a fantastic experience.
On a personal note, I think that the best drink at Starbucks is a creation my friend suggested. You take an iced peach green tea lemonade and substitute the lemonade for apple juice then add an extra shot of peach. I drink it so fast, I usually need a Venti to last me."

"Over the past four years, I've made numerous friends here at Telfer. It's not just meeting other students in classrooms or surviving final exams; it’s getting involved with the 13 clubs the faculty has to offer. With encouragement from other people, you find your stride and discover who you are as a person. I've been a part of 6 organizations within Telfer over the past 4 years. Some of my roles have been long-term, with CASCO and Enactus, and some short-term, like the Entrepreneurship Club. I'm doing various tasks and experiencing volunteer work that has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone, and helped me discover who I am. The most significant and valuable takeaway from my time at Telfer has been the ability to diversify my skill set, thanks to the Telfer Career Centre. I wouldn't have the experiences I have today if it wasn't for the Telfer network and the ability to put myself out there. Knowing that the students will support and accept me for who I am, has been priceless."

"I chose to specialize in Management because, in the future, I want to work for myself. I want to manage my own business one day and be my own boss. I am in Management to explore the diverse options and opportunities of owning a business. Being my own boss would also be a lot simpler and easier because I would be able to plan my own schedule and do things that I like. It would allow me to work on my hobbies, such as acting and volunteering. Being my own boss means I am in charge of my life and I'm not being micromanaged."

"Being a TA for the Business Communication Skills course (ADM 2381) has allowed me to help students develop useful public speaking skills and to effectively prepare them for all types of presentations they might encounter. It has also allowed me to have a noticeable impact on other students’ skills and confidence in terms of presentations. Seeing the progress some students make and the skills they develop throughout the duration of the course is really impressive."

"101 week was really fun as a guide this year. Experiencing it from a different perspective made me see just how much Telfer does to make sure the new students have fun. We worked hard to make it a great week. This year we introduced more mixed faculty activities which really helps people connect with others so now it is a week of opportunities to meet even more new people!"
