Professor Sidney specializes in the area of management science, with a focus on production scheduling and on development of combinatorial algorithms for complex problems. Professional efforts have included projects such as the development of software for communication satellite placement, analysis of fishery operations in Atlantic Canada, simulation of urban bus routes, and socio-economic policy analysis for the Treasury Board Secretariat. Current efforts are focused upon scheduling of robotic systems, open shop scheduling, and combinatorial optimization with incomplete information.
Publications have ranged over a wide variety of journals. As member of the Canadian Operational Research Society, INFORMS and the Production and Operations Management Society, Professor Sidney has been active in the professional community. He was editor and associate editor of INFOR; assistant editor of Operations Research, and has participated in the organization of many conferences.
