This year marks the 5-year anniversary of the Telfer School’s transformative naming gift. A reception will be held on May 12, 2012 at the Château Laurier in Ottawa to celebrate the occasion with special guests Ian Telfer and his wife Nancy Burke.

On May 8, 2007, the University of Ottawa announced that Ian Telfer, Chairman of Goldcorp Inc. and a 1976 graduate of the school’s MBA program, had pledged a $25-million naming gift to the School of Management. In recognition of his donation, the school was renamed in his honour.

“The reason I am so proud to support the School of Management at the University of Ottawa is because I have experienced firsthand the positive impact the School can have on the lives of its alumni. Over 30 years ago the School of Management made an investment in me ─ now it's my turn to return the favour and make an investment in the School” said Mr. Telfer at the time of the donation.

To this day, Mr. Telfer’s donation is the largest gift in University of Ottawa history, the most generous donation ever granted in the National Capital Region and the biggest private gift ever made to name a Canadian business school.

"It is hard to believe it has been five years since I re-connected with the University of Ottawa” said Mr. Telfer. “I am very fortunate to have this wonderful association with the incredible students, faculty, and staff that make the Telfer School of Management such a great institution."

Since Ian Telfer’s unprecedented gift and the move to the Desmarais Building in 2007, the Telfer School has celebrated many accomplishments.

In 2009, the Telfer School of Management receives EQUIS accreditation, thus achieving the triple crown of international accreditations. Today, the Telfer School is one of only 2 business schools in Canada and one of about 50 in the world to have achieved this.

In 2010, the Telfer School, in collaboration with IBM, created the IBM Centre for Business Analytics and Performance. As of today, the total investment by IBM to close to $12 million.

In the past 5 years, students from the Telfer School have excelled in student competitions:

·         Champions for three consecutive years at the HRM Symposium case competition

·         MBA TATA Cup Champions in 2008 and 2011

·         Happening Marketing Champions in 2010

·         Jeux du commerce Champions  in 2009 and 2012

“We are indeed celebrating 5 years of success” said Dean François Julien. “We are celebrating the success of our innovative programs, our professors’ research and the outstanding student experience that we offer.”
