TELFER WINS 2ND ANNUAL DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION MBA CASE COMPETITION

 
 
On March 3-4, 2017, the Telfer School of Management, in partnership with Export Development Canada and Deloitte, hosted the second annual Diversity and Inclusion MBA Case Competition. During this case competition, teams examined emerging challenges and proposed solutions pertaining to the frequently overlooked issues of diversity and inclusion in organizations. The Telfer School’s delegation proved their skills in leadership by winning the case competition. Congratulations to the winning team, including Matt Chesser, Abhijit Doiphode, Taro Abarbanel-Ueumura and Vikas Kumar!

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: 2017 TELFER SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT ALUMNI AWARDS
The Telfer School is accepting nominations for its alumni awards: the Trudeau Medal and the Young Achiever's award. These honours are awarded to alumni in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the world of business and health care, their communities and their alma mater. These recognitions will be awarded at the next Gala of Excellence on October 21, 2017. The deadline for nominations is April 14, 2017 at 5 p.m.

TELFER CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AT ANNUAL ROTMAN INTERNATIONAL TRADING COMPETITION
The University of Toronto’s Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), brings together some of the world’s top business schools for a 3 day intensive simulation. Out of the 52 attending schools, The Telfer School team performed exceptionally and emerged 13th. Telfer surpassed competition from schools such as McGill, Columbia, Western, Queens, and University of Hong Kong.

TELFER STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN 2017 NATIONAL MODEL AFRICAN UNION CONFERENCE
Seven Telfer students recently participated in the 2017 National Model African Union Conference in Washington, DC. Students learned about the structure and activities of the African Union and the issues facing African countries through the simulation, and were also able to network with African diplomats. Congratulations to the delegation and the two Telfer students who won Outstanding Performance Awards: Gaëlle Faye and Marie-Emmanuelle Kouadio.

ENGAGEMENT WITH DONORS: WELCH LLP
Welch LLP has been a loyal partner of the Telfer School for the last decade, with representation on the Dean’s Advisory Board, hiring coop students, interns and alumni, and supporting many other initiatives at the School. Welch has extended their financial support with a commitment of $57,500 over the next five years. They will continue supporting the Welch LLP Accounting Scholarship, which recognizes an accounting student who is actively involved in the campus community.

DAVID ROSS DISCUSSES INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP AT ALUMNI BREAKFAST
The Telfer School had the pleasure of welcoming David Ross, CEO of Ross Video, at the Alumni Breakfast Speaker Series on March 8th. Ross, the recipient of the Ottawa Business Journal/Ottawa Chamber of Commerce 2016 CEO of the Year award, addressed an audience of Telfer students, alumni and members of the Ottawa business community, discussing innovation and leadership and drawing upon lessons from his company’s huge success.

MENTAL HEALTH: TO DISCLOSE OR NOT TO DISCLOSE AT THE OFFICE
A multidisciplinary study led by the Telfer School will explore the causes, manifestations and consequences of employees’ disclosure of their mental health problems at work. The findings should better inform executives and human resource professionals on the development of policies for work climates that encourage, rather than discourage, employees from seeking support for the mental health conditions with which they are struggling.

The Telfer MBA program helped Gabriela branch out and experience working with different people in all aspects of life. As the creator of the collection of magazines Gildshire, Gabriela has learned to overcome challenges in her career and to draw inspiration from those she looks up to, specifically other successful entrepreneurs in media. Gabriela believes that the relationships and connections that Telfer professors took the time to make with her is what made her experience in the MBA program so memorable.
