Notice biographique

Mme Orser est professeure titulaire et Professeure Deloitte en gestion des entreprises de croissance. Elle est membre du comité de rédaction du Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship et membre du conseil consultatif national du Women in Technology au sein de l’Alliance canadienne pour les technologies avancées (CATA WIT). Elle a déjà été membre du conseil d’administration du Conseil canadien des PME et de l’entrepreneuriat, et de l’International Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Avant son arrivée à l’École de gestion Telfer en 2005, elle a été professeure agrégée aux universités Carleton et Ryerson et directrice de programme du Centre of Excellence for Women's Advancement au Conference Board du Canada. Elle est consultante auprès du gouvernement et présidente du Groupe de travail pour la croissance des entreprises appartenant à des femmes, un consortium national et impartial de femmes d'affaires, d’organismes de services aux PME, d'universitaires et d'associations sectorielles (voir : http://sites.telfer.uottawa.ca/womensenterprise). En 2010, Mme Orser a été reconnue comme l'une des 100 femmes les plus influentes au Canada (catégorie Champion) par le Réseau des Femmes Exécutives et a reçu le 2010 World of Differences 100 Awards de la International Alliance of Women. En 2011, elle a reçu le Prix pour service, enseignement et recherche de l'École de gestion Telfer à l'Université d'Ottawa.

Domaines de recherche

Barbara Orser mène des recherches liées à la croissance des petites et moyennes entreprises (PME), y compris la prise de décision entrepreneuriale, l’influence des sexes, l’internationalisation des PME et les politiques publiques. Elle est coauteure de deux livres sur les finances des petites entreprises et a mené un nombre d’études d’envergure sur la croissance des entreprises. Ses travaux ont paru dans plus de 100 revues universitaires et professionnelles, dont Entrepreneurship, Theory and Practice, Journal of Small Business Management, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Revue canadienne des sciences de l’administration et Gender in Management: An International Journal. La qualité de son travail lui a valu des prix d’organismes tels que la Revue canadienne des sciences de l'administration, l’Association des sciences administratives du Canada, le Conseil canadien des PME et de l’entrepreneuriat et l’International Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Orser, B. 2000. Creating High-Performance Organizations. Leveraging Women's Leadership. The Conference Board of Canada, Ottawa. This report was based on input from 600 private and public sector chief executive officers, human resources professionals and women executives using surveys and in-depth interviews. Creation and analysis of a secondary database of financial performance indicators was also employed. The report was ranked among the top 5 Conference Board publications in 1999-2000, English and French, 31 pages each.

Conducted on behalf of the 22 member National Home-based Business Project Committee, a committee that included private sector, trade association and federal, provincial and municipal government reprensentatives. The task included four inter-related research studies and a comprehensive review of the literature and reference materials, 272 pages each.
