Les contributions majeures au cours de la carrière
Three major research studies (1989) done for the Nova Scotia Royal Commission on Health Care influenced a significant number of final recommendations made by the Royal Commission.
Directed a major national study on Cost-Effectiveness of the Canadian Health Care System (1992-1994: publications in 1995). The research indicated where, through appropriate subsitutions, efficiencies could be achieved in the way health care services are delivered. The impact on government policy, academic research and teaching has been significant. Since the release of the major report, there have been five re-prints, due to the high demand of the study.
In the Economic Analysis of the Costs of Society of Unintentional Injury in Canada (1998), the study results documented clearly for the first time in Canada the total economic burden of such injuries (most of which are preventable). The study has become evidence to support numerous initiatives across Canada to try to reduce the incidence and prevalence of this major health event.
The work on Better Beginnings, Better Futures (major technical report of 2001 and 2005) represents the first stage of this longitudinal, multi-disciplinary and multi-Ontario university quasi-experimental research study of early childhood interventions that are geared towards low-income neighborhoods in Ontario. My major contribution to this research has been on the economic analysis component.
