MHA Faculty

The MHA program is led by a dedicated and experienced faculty comprised of many of Canada’s leading health care management experts and researchers. This elite group of academics and professionals includes:

  • Professor Doug Angus a renowned researcher and expert on health care issues;
  • Professor Jacques Barrette. Professor Barrette's research focuses on performance-management systems and their relationship to organizational performance.
  • Professor Morad Benyoucef. His research interests include software engineering, e-business, e-negotiations, workflow management, rule engine technology and web services.
  • Professor Kevin Brand, Dr. Brand has broad expertise in environmental health risk assessment, with a specific interest in uncertainty analysis and its interplay with policy formulation.
  • Professor Samia Chreim is very active in terms of scholarly and academic activites. Her current research focuses on the impact of mergers and acquisitions on organizational and employee identities.
  • Professor Ron Eden. Professor Eden's research interests include the accounting and financing of local government in Canada, health care accounting and the strategic linkages in planning and control mechanisms.
  • Professor Mirou Jaana. Her research interests focus on the areas of health services research and IT in healthcare including IT sophistication in health care settings, risks in health IT projects, telehealth applications, and specific aspects of healthcare services (e.g., patient safety, quality, access to care).
  • Professor Craig Kuziemsky. His primary research interests are in the areas of information systems design and evaluation, health information, information management, palliative care, and interdisciplinary communication.
  • Professor Daniel Lane concentrates his research interests on decision-making processes, simulation modelling and control of dynamic systems, especially in the area of natural resource management.
  • Professor Laurent Lapierre specializes in employee/manager staffing and performance management systems. His research focuses on employee stress, with particular emphasis on work-family conflict, and on the mutual influence between leaders and their followers within organizations.
  • Professor Wojtek Michalowski, whose clinical trial on the use of handheld technology in hospital emergency rooms was chronicled by the CBC;
  • Professor Jonathan Patrick 's research interests are in applying the methods of operations research to improve the efficiency of health care
  • Professor Bijan Raahemi. Dr. Raahemi held several research positions in Telecommunications industry, including Nortel and Alcatel, focusing on computer networks architectures and services, dynamics of Internet traffic, systems modeling, and performance analysis of data networks.

In addition to providing teaching excellence, faculty members work closely with students, offering them advice and counselling related to residency selection, field projects and career opportunities.The faculty also seeks to foster student initiative, intellectual curiosity and independent judgement through self-directed projects and residency placements in a variety of health care organizations.To this end, the program makes significant use of teaching materials geared toward health care practitioners, and encourages students to undertake voluntary activities in health care institutions and related organizations.
