The student must enrol full-time without interruption for the duration of the scholarship (12 consecutive terms). Note that a portion of the admission scholarship offered by the Telfer School of Management will take the form of teaching and research assistantships, marker positions, instructor positions, or other soft-funded scholarships. It is the student’s responsibility to apply for these positions.

Scholarship recipients benefit from an additional $9,000 (per year, up to four years) awarded by the Office of the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The Office of the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies admission scholarship will be given automatically to any student whose admission average is 8.0/10 (A-) or more and who enrols full-time without interruption for the duration of the scholarship (12 consecutive terms).

Doctoral students are responsible for paying the University of Ottawa tuition, at the rates indicated on the Registrar’s website.

The total value of funding given to eligible candidates accepted to the Telfer doctoral program is up to $36,000 yearly, for up to four years.  (Note that the admission scholarship offered by the Telfer School of Management already includes the matching component required by the Office of the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies).

Excellence Scholarships:

Excellence scholarships equivalent to the University of Ottawa tuition fees are awarded to recipients of major external awards (e.g., CIHR, FRQ, NSERC, OGS, SSHRC). They are awarded for each year that the external award is held. For those students who also received an Admission Scholarship from FGPS, this scholarship will be replaced with the Excellence Scholarship. The Excellence Scholarship does not include a guaranteed matching funding contribution offered by the academic unit.

Every doctoral student is required to apply for at least one of these external scholarships starting in year 1 of his/her program.
