About the Presentation

Evaluating the performance of incubators is currently the subject of increasing debate. After a review of the literature on the subject, we will highlight the current lack of clarity around how incubators are evaluated. This can be explained by the difficulty to be found in defining relevant performance indicators. Previous studies have also had too great a tendency to examine the performances of incubators from a single point of view. In order to go beyond this, we have developed a new approach inspired by the balanced scorecard. Our contribution lies in the multi-dimensional nature of the evaluation model that we propose. To test this model, we sent out a questionnaire to 109 directors of French incubators. Our results show that it is relevant to approach the performances of incubators from the point of view of a multi-dimensional model based on the balanced scorecard.
