Information for Outgoing Students
In order to be eligible, students must have completed their second or third year of study (depending on the partner institution) with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.0. Certain institutions require a CGPA of 6.0. Students are recommended to submit up to eight (8) choices on their application.
Upon evaluation of your application for admission, we will take into consideration your CGPA and your cover letter.
For all exchange programs students will continue to pay full-time tuition fees to the University of Ottawa. Tuition fees will not be paid to the University abroad. Students must cover their travel and living expenses while abroad.
For students who are required a special permission from the CO-OP office, please fill out the following form.
The application deadline is January 31 for each admission cycle.
Consult the Embassy of your international institution’s host country for information concerning visas, cost of living, currency, etc.
We also have at the Student Services Centre, DMS 1100, all the student’s testimonials that list the cost of accommodations of the international institutions.
Book your flight and purchase a complete health insurance. A special plan is available for students studying overseas for at least six months (consult OHIP for more details).
Your academic file will be sent to our international partner at the beginning of March, who will then send you a letter of admission (usually in June/October). Upon receipt of this document from your international institution, you must apply immediately for a student visa (consult the Embassy for deadlines and procedures).
With your offer of admission, you will usually receive further information concerning the institution. We ask you to not communicate with the international institution until you have received your letter of admission.
It is extremely important that you submit all address changes and telephone numbers to our office since all documents will be sent to us (to be forwarded to you)

Course selection
The International Office will be preparing a form for all BCom students stating the number of courses that must be completed abroad and the exemptions that will be granted upon your return. If certain conditions apply to you, they will be listed on this Course Exemption Form. The course exemptions are based on your course sequence for your BCom Option. Therefore, it is very important that students clearly indicate their B.Com options on their applications.
During their studies abroad, B.Com students may take business and third language (not French or English as a second language) courses. You will need to request approval for your international exchange course selection prior to your enrolment with your host institution. To submit your request, complete this form, and send it by email to
Enrolment
In June, the International Office will enrol you in the TRF 1000 code for your exchange. Some institutions will ask you also to complete a Course Enrolment and a Request for Residence form before your departure.
Please pay your tuition fees and incidental fees at the University of Ottawa by the deadline. All International Exchange students are enrolled at the University of Ottawa on a full-time basis to 15 units (one term) or 30 units (two terms) even if they wish to complete less or more than 5 courses abroad.
If you will be graduating upon your return, please complete a Request for Diploma form before your departure. Students who study overseas during the Winter term, will graduate during the next graduation (Fall term) since transcripts from overseas are received in August. Students who will study overseas during the Fall term will graduate in June since transcripts from overseas are received in March.
Complete all necessary forms (enrolment, financial aid, graduation) before your departure.
If you must enroll at the University of Ottawa for the next academic year and you are abroad during the enrolment period, you can check the web for the timetable and enrol. You will have access to uoCampus while you will be abroad. Since places are limited, please do not wait until your return to Ottawa to complete your course enrolment. We highly recommend that you contact the University of Ottawa students who will be attending the same international institution or same region. Therefore, a list of all the International Exchange participants' addresses and phone numbers will be given to all International Exchange students. Please contact our office before February 1st, if you do not want your address on this list.
Upon your arrival at your international institution, you must contact the International Exchange Representative of your international institution and finalize your course enrolment and timetable, if required. Most institutions will ask you to complete a preliminary course enrolment before your arrival. If your residence has not been confirmed before your arrival, they can also help you find appropriate off-campus housing.

On June 30th, 1994, the Provincial Ontario Government eliminated Health Care protection for non-Ontario Residents. Therefore, all International Students must purchase the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP), to provide protection compared to that available from the Ontario Government (OHIP).
All international students must purchase the UHIP in order to register at the University of Ottawa.
UHIP subscription is COMPULSORY. It is not necessary for you to purchase another insurance plan for the academic year. UHIP coverage starts on the 11th day of the month preceding the start of a program of study, for newly enrolled students, or at the beginning of the session, for returning students.
It is preferable that you pay your UHIP coverage with your tuition fees through a bank transfer. For further information on the coverage provided by the University Health Insurance Plan, please visit the UHIP website or

Many undergraduate courses such as ADM 1300 or ADM 1301 have discussion groups (DGD) which you must choose according to your schedule. However, most discussion groups are not compulsory to complete your course during your exchange at Telfer.
*Please note that business attire is mandatory when professors request students to make formal business presentations as part of their lectures. Therefore, don't forget to pack at least one business suit.
Course Sections
Most courses of the Telfer School of Management are offered in multiple sections. Each section has its own time slot and professor. In the Timetable, the section is represented by the letter next to the course code following by two zeros, such as A00, B00, C00, etc.
For example:
ADM 2341 A00 is offered Monday for 11:30 to 13:00 and Thursday from13:00 to 14:20.
ADM 2341 E00 is offered Wednesday from 19:00 to 21:50.
If you select a course with a section, you must clearly indicate it on your registration form in the appropriate space and attend that specific section throughout the term.
Definition of the Course Codes and Symbols
Each course is composed of alphabetical and numerical codes. The alphabetical codes indicate the topic of the course. (ADM = Administration or Business).
The first digit of the numerical codes indicates the level of the course.
(ADM 1300 = level 1000 = 1st year) (Undergraduate)
(ADM 2341 = level 2000 = 2nd year)
(ADM 3350 = level 3000 = 3rd year)
(ADM 4312 = level 4000 = 4th year)

The second digit indicates the languages in which the course is given.

On-campus student residence is available at the University of Ottawa. Exchange students are usually allocated a room in the Marchand residence. Available facilities include:
- Main reception desk, mailboxes
- Laundry room, bicycle, and winter storage;
- Activity lounge on even-numbered floors;
- Shared, non-coed bathrooms on all floors.
Please note that Marchand Residences are not open 24 hours. Therefore, if you arrive in Ottawa after office hours, please go to 90U Residence for your keys.
Please check here for the List of What to bring. Rooms are equipped with electrical outlets (110-120 Volts) for radios and televisions, and there is enough room for a small rental refrigerator. Public areas are cleaned weekly.
Community kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator, a hot plate and a microwave oven. Please note that pots and dishes are not provided and that no cooking whatsoever is permitted outside the kitchen. A television is found in every community lounge. There are two non-co-ed washrooms per floor.
Each residence has laundry rooms washers and dryers. You can pay by your uOttawa Card loaded with Flex dollars to use them.
The residences offer excellent security procedures. Reception desks are open 24 hours a day and only residents and their guests are allowed into the buildings. Reception personnel direct telephone calls and distribute mail daily into individual mailboxes.

Due to limited availability, we are unable to guarantee that all students will receive a room in residence. Therefore, it is advised that you schedule your arrival in Ottawa for mid-August (fall term) and early January (winter term) to find off-campus housing. The average price for an unfurnished one-bedroom apartment in Ottawa ranges from CAN $650 to $1,000, per month.

Rates
The rates are approximately $ 4,300 for a single room, and $3,600 for a double room in Marchand residence, for a term of 4 months.
Availability
Students will have access to their rooms as of 12:00 p.m. on the date confirmed on their residence contract.
Academic Year
Typically, we welcome our international exchange students and hold the orientation session in the end of August for Fall terms, and the beginning of January for Winter terms. Fall term courses run from early-September to December and Winter term courses from early-January to April. We strongly encourage you to check our Important Academic Dates and Deadlines page for more information.
The final exam schedule will only be released 1-2 months after the courses start. When booking your returning flights, you must respect the dates indicated on your schedule. The exam schedule will not be modified if you have an early departure flight. Therefore, you cannot book a flight before the end of the term. Please note that the term officially ends at 10 p.m. on the final date of the final exam period (usually in the end of December for fall terms and end of April for winter terms).
If you arrive early, and have not reserved a temporary room at the University of Ottawa or you do not have a room in residence, you can find low-cost accommodation at the hotels listed below for temporary accommodation. Students must be nominated by their home institution before applying to the Telfer School of Management’s International Exchange Programs.
Applicants from certain bilateral partners are required to submit a proof of their English language proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS scores). Please contact your home institution’s exchange program coordinator for further information on application requirements.
The application deadline is April 15 for the Fall term exchange and October 15 for Winter term exchange. You are required to fill out an online form and submit it with your official transcript, and language proficiency test result (if applicable) within the respective deadlines.
Once we proceed your application, you will receive the letter of acceptance with your uOttawa Access ID by email to set up your student account on uoZone.

2. Social activities are organized by the Telfer School of Management in collaboration of Telfer International student club during orientation week.

Transcripts
Two copies of your official transcripts are mailed directly to your University. Should you require an extra copy, please make sure to order it on uoZone or with InfoService.
- Once you’ve dropped off your luggage at your residence or apartment, please come to the Student Services Centre in Desmarais (55 Laurier East, room 1100). If you arrive in the evening, please come to our office at 9:00 a.m. the next morning. We will meet you in person and give you the orientation schedule and useful welcome kit.
- If you arrive after regular business hours, please go to the 90U Residence Complex (90 University street) to obtain a key for your room in residence. The 90U Residence Complex is open 24 hours.
